JOB DESCRIPTION
The Staff Nurse – OR/PACU provides direct and individualised nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles within the Operating Theatre, Post Anaesthesia Care Unit (Recovery), and Cardiac Catheterization Lab.
Ability to deliver advanced nursing care in complex situations.
Ability to stand for extended periods
Possess visual acuity
Ability to observe, monitor, assess, report and document the anaesthetized patient’s response to treatment
Able to monitor and adjust medical equipment in use.
Ability to provide emotional and psychological support to parents and families.
Provide nursing care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
Assist the medical team with the assessment of the patient and any procedures that needs to be undertaken.
Maintain a good rapport with the parents and family of the patient. Answer, or direct, their questions to the correct person.
Participate in promoting theatre nursing
Maintain and care for all equipment
Participate in ongoing education
Record all patient care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms
Prep operating rooms for patients/procedures
Ensure that proper techniques and practices are used according to accepted standards of practice.
Supervise other personnel in the room and direct or assist as necessary.
Report any unusual occurrences to charge personnel; document these occurrences appropriately in the patient record, and complete Hospital Incident Reports form if indicated.
Perform scrub/scout duties as directed.
Care for specimens and cultures as directed by set policies and procedures.
Utilise program of pre and post-operative visits to facilitate knowledge of patient, condition, and needs.
Assist in the control and maintenance of supplies and equipment.
Ensure a clean, safe environment through continued alertness to safety and explosive hazards and aseptic techniques.
Assist in control of traffic and personnel to ensure proper control of infection and asepsis.
Be available for on –call for emergencies, available for additional duty as required.
Assume accountability and responsibility for own work performance and those under his or her supervision
REQUIREMENTS
BS Nursing or equivalent, minimum 3 years experience/specialist training where necessary, previous/recent experience in management or senior position required.
Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing – duration of study is not less than three academic years from Western Accredited Institution
Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing – duration of study is not less than 3 academic years from Non-Western Accredited Institution
At least three (3) years of recent post-graduate med/surg nursing experience.
Current home country license to practice nursing
Trained in Advanced Life Support, Pediatric Advance Life Support and Basic Life Support (advantageous for recovery room position)
Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, nurses, doctors and other hospital staff.
Demonstrated commitment to continuing medical education.
Demonstrated ability to deliver quality patient care
Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement for better health outcomes
Fluency in written and spoken English (Arabic language skills are well regarded)
High level of verbal and written communication skills
High level of interpersonal and organizational skills
Strong computer literacy
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
